You are responsible for reading your own post
It is your responsibility to open and read your Digital Post. If you do not check your Digital Post regularly, you may not see post that requires action. Your Digital Post may contain decisions and notifications that require your attention.
Not all post from public authorities can be sent digitally. Therefore, you still need to check your paper-based letters (letters in your physical letter box).Indhold hentet fra lifeindenmark.borger.dk

How to be exempted
To apply for exemption from Digital Post you must show up at your local Danish municipality in person. Here you must fill out and sign a form stating that you live up to at least one of the exemption criteria. You will need to show a valid type of ID or identification papers.
If you are allowed to be exempt, the municipality can give you a written receipt confirming your exemption. You are not obligated to disclose which of the exemption criteria that apply to you.If you are unable to show up at the municipality in person
If you are unable to show up at the municipality yourself, you can ask someone else show up and apply for your exemption on your behalf. This requires a form that gives the person a power of attorney. The form can be hand out at the local municipality or you can download it here. The form needs to be signed by you as well as the person helping you.

What is the difference between Digital Post and NemID/MitID?
As a citizen in Denmark, you receive your post from public authorities digitally. Both the mailbox and the messages are called Digital Post and ensure secure digital communication between you and the public authorities. Security is important, because messages with sensitive personal data are often exchanged.
NemID and MitID are your digital ID for self-service online. You can use it to login to your online banking, change your advance tax statement or login to your Digital Post on borger.dk or read post from public authorities.

What is MitID?
The Danish national eID, MitID, is every resident’s personal key to digital services in Denmark, including self-service solutions provided by the public sector.
In Denmark, your contact with the public authorities and many private companies starts on the internet. In a large number of areas, you are obliged to use digital self-service.
In order to access digital self-services, you need MitID which is your personal digital ID for login and digital signature. It allows for citizens to access their public services 24 hours a day.
In the public sector this applies, for example, when you:- change your address
- apply for childcare
- see your tax
- choose a doctor
- read your Digital Post
- leave Denmark
The film 'Welcome to Digital Denmark' introduces you to e.g. MitID:

Apply for NemID/MitID
If you have just arrived in Denmark, you can get MitID in 2 different ways:
- By scanning your passport or ID card in the MitID app
- By contacting your local Citizen Service.
Get MitID with passport or ID card
To get MitID in the MitID app, you need a valid passport (Danish or other nationalities) or an ID card with a chip.
Please note that your phone must be able to scan the chip in your passport or ID card. Your phone must therefore be a smartphone – an iPhone 7 or newer or a newer Android phone.
Steps:- Download the MitID app from App Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the MitID app and tap the menu in the top left corner. Tap ‘Get MitID using passport’.
- Scan the code and read the chip in your passport.
- Then scan your face to compare it with your passport photo.
- The MitID app now generates a 3D FaceScan, and if the result of this comparison is satisfactory, the app confirms your identity so that you can create MitID directly in the app.
- You are then ready to use MitID. Once you have created MitID, you can use MitID as an app on all iPhones from iPhone 5s onwards and most Android phones. If you do not want to use MitID as an app, you can order a code viewer or code reader.
Please note that if you already have the MitID app, you may need to update it for it to register passports or ID cards from other nationalities than Danish.
